Councillor Winters Monthly Update – December 2023
So, here we are in December! There are lots of fabulous events, activities and celebrations happening in our town during this month. Don’t miss out – look for details on the Town Council notice board outside the Memorial Hall, the BID Digi-boards on the High Street, shop windows, and all the usual social media sites. Details of our own events can also be found on the inside back cover of this publication – including our last Tea Dance of the year on Friday 22nd December to get you into the festive spirit.
Thanks go out to all who attended our Remembrance Day services and parade last month. It is always fantastic to see so many local people turn out in support of the Royal British Legion and to recognise those who serve or have served their country on our behalf.
As we move into the festive period, unfortunately we are hearing more frequent reports of shoplifting and other petty crimes. Please take care of your handbag, purse, or wallet when you are shopping. Be very cautious about laying your mobile phone on the table if you stop for a break in a pub, coffee shop, or restaurant. Distraction theft is very much in abundance, whereby a napkin or magazine may be placed over a phone, which is then scooped up with it and it is gone before you even realise what has happened. Keep phones out of sight – don’t put them down on tables or shop counters, keep an eye (and a hand) on your bags and packages, and be extra vigilant.
All council meetings are open to the public. Come along one Monday evening to address the council on any matter, to speak about a planning application or other item on the agendas, or just to observe the proceedings. Stay for as little or as long as you wish. Meeting agendas are published on our website the Tuesday prior and also appear in our official noticeboard outside the Memorial Hall.
