I spent several happy afternoons seeing so many children and families having a wonderful time at the summer activities laid on by the Town Council in the Memorial Gardens. We had some fantastic storytelling and performances, magic shows, craft, face painting and bouncy castles. It is so rewarding to be able to provide the community with these free events, and I hope you enjoyed them whether you attended one, two, or even all five. Do get in touch if you would like to suggest an event or activity you would particularly be interested in seeing here in Newmarket.
We flew the flag of St George and lit the clocktower red and white to show our support for the Lionesses for their World Cup Final match. Such a fabulous achievement for the team to reach the final.
As the children go back to school and we head into autumn, do bear in mind that The Racing Centre is host to a community pantry where those in need can pick up donated food to help with the cost of living crisis. The Centre can also assist in directing you to other support services as necessary. The Racing Centre is an independent charity, and their community hub facility on Fred Archer Way is open 6am to 8pm on weekdays, 9am to 5pm at the weekend.
In collaboration with Newmarket Charitable Foundation, we hosted a day of Reflexology at the pavilion at the end of August. Alongside our free yoga sessions, it proved to be a very popular part of our Summer of Wellbeing, and all proceeds will be used by the Foundation to support deserving causes here in Newmarket.
We have commenced a programme of refurbishing the benches on the High Street, so don’t be alarmed if you notice one has suddenly disappeared – it will return!
