Councillor Winter’s Monthly Update – June 2023
I am honoured to have been elected to be Newmarket’s Mayor for another year.
I am delighted to have Councillor John Harvey alongside me as Deputy Mayor for this year – please join me in congratulating him on his appointment.
Newmarket has a brand-new council, elected on 4th May, and it gives me pleasure to welcome our newest members – Councillors Kavanagh, Jarvis, Jones, and McHugh, and also Councillors Nobbs and Starkey, who have both served on the Town Council previously. We are all looking forward to working together for the benefit of the community. We held the Annual Meeting for the residents on 18th May – sadly I was unable to chair due to illness, but Councillor Harvey valiantly took on his first role as Deputy to stand in for me, and I watched the live stream. It was gratifying to hear from beneficiaries how the grants they had received from the Town Council has benefitted them and their organisations. Thank you to all who took the time to attend.
I hope you were able to enjoy the Coronation celebrations we hosted on the Severals. The predicted heavy rain graciously stayed away and I think a good time was had by all. The space wheel performances were particularly spectacular and drew a large audience. Perhaps you spotted our special attendee!
Time is approaching for the return of activities and entertainment for children in the Memorial Gardens throughout the school summer holidays, taking place every Thursday afternoon. Look out for the posters at the Hall and information on social media for further details. In the meantime, do drop in and enjoy the splashpad which has been opened for the season – operational between 10.30am and 4.30pm every day.
