Town Council requests MP’s resignation

Dear Mr Hancock

On Monday 28th November 2022 at the Full Council meeting a motion was proposed and seconded and passed by a majority vote of the Members as follows:-

“To consider that Newmarket Town Council calls for the resignation of the MP for West Suffolk, Matt Hancock, by writing to him and publicising this in the local media (Proposed by Cllr L Crissall, seconded by Cllr K Yarrow)”.

At a time when the residents of this West Suffolk constituency are facing huge pressures on their everyday life, in particular with serious transport issues at a crucial stage where much negotiation is required before April 2023, your constituents are finding it extremely hard to accept that you chose to join the cast of ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here’.

It was, in fact, at the very time that the Mayor and I were writing to you with regard to lobbying the Transport Minister for funding for the bus transport service that a staff member informed us that you were in the jungle.  In addition, your office’s response to my email regarding this did not reflect the seriousness of this matter.

It seems clear to us that your priorities are now outside of politics and Newmarket Town Council therefore requests that you do the honourable thing and resign your seat so that a new MP can give the West Suffolk constituents their undivided attention.

Yours sincerely

Town Clerk
