Councillor Winter’s Monthly Update – August 2022
August brought it’s own challenges with the extreme heat and drought. The Town Council and staff was focussed on preparing for the summer and working on saving the gardens & birds from the heat and sun.
The Memorial Gardens received extra work on the splash pad with members of staff doing their best to keep the splash pad clean from the algae caused by the hot weather.
We thank the Deputy Town Clerk and Townkeeper who have been scrubbing the splash pad and making it safe as often as possible, this is not an easy job and we have had members of staff going above and beyond to keep the splash pad functioning.
The Tailor Trailer from Stellar Catering who have been supplying refreshments in the Memorial Gardens have been brightening up the area with their wagon full of treats. Please continue to support the Tailor Trailer whilst enjoying the gardens.
With the layout of the gardens, it is not feasible to provide drinking water to everyone and we would encourage visitors to bring their own bottled water or money to purchase drinks.
The Town Council looks forward to working with local organisations to improve and enhance Newmarket town centre. We have ambitious plans to continue bringing the best to Newmarket in collaboration with local government organisations.
The Market enjoyed an energetic boost with free activities offered such as a magic show, circus skills, regency country style dancing lessons, face painting and many more.
Every Tuesday throughout the summer the market square will have extra entertainment.
Every month there is a Makers Market running alongside the usual market from 9.30 am till 3pm where live music and craft workshops will be held in conjunction with craft workshops to liven up this Saturday market. The next dates for the Makers Market are on Saturday 10th September, 8th October, 12th November, 10th December 2022.
Keep an eye on the Newmarket Town Council website and Calendar, together with social media sites for important event dates and, if you want to participate in any of the Town Council meetings these are listed on the website too.
