Message from the Mayor

Councillor Winter’s Monthly Update – July 2022

July has been a busy month for the Mayor and also for the Town Council.  Together we strive to improve the quality of life of the people in Newmarket, working together with all local councils and organisations to achieve this.

There has been a lot of work in the cemetery and we have realised the chapel needs some major repairs.  This will be an ongoing process and you will see the warning signs indicating works areas.

The Memorial Gardens needed a lot of additional maintenance with the unexpected heatwave, and our Townkeeper needed to invest extra time and efforts in keeping the gardens watered and feeding the birds.

I am pleased to announce a new light refreshment vendor for the Memorial Gardens, ready for the summer months.  We would like to welcome Tailor Trailer from Stellar Catering who will be selling snacks and drinks at affordable prices to visitors who will be enjoying the gardens.

I visited many businesses in Newmarket during independents business week and held discussions regarding the future.  The overall message was that there is a larger demand for High Street shopping.

The Market was enlivened this July with street performers from stilt walkers and music to theatre parades.  Please remember to support your local market on Tuesdays and Saturdays in the Market Square.

Keep an eye on the Newmarket Town Council Calendar and sites for important dates and, if you want to participate in any of the Town Council meetings these are listed on the website too.

We are looking forward to an eventful August and I would like to thank you for the support you have given us throughout July.
