Election of the a Town Councillor for Newmarket Town Council (Severals Ward) Newmarket (Severals) Notice of Election
Notice is hereby given that due to the resignation of Councillor Andrew Appleby, a vacancy has arisen in the Office of Councillor for the Town Council.
1. Forms of nomination may be obtained from the Returning Officer who will, on request, prepare a nomination paper for signature. Forms of nomination are also available at http://www.westsuffolk.gov.uk/elections.
2. Nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer, West Suffolk House, Western Way, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP33 3YU during office hours on any working day after the date of this notice (excluding bank holidays) but no later than 4pm on Friday 4 March 2022.
3. To ensure that nominations can be delivered safely, please book an appointment by emailing elections@westsuffolk.gov.uk with details of the date and time that you would like to attend.
4. If any election is contested the poll will take place on Thursday 31 March 2022.
5. Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 12 midnight on Tuesday 15 March 2022. Applications can be made online: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
6. Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes and amendments or cancellations of proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at West Suffolk House, Western Way, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP33 3YU by 5pm on Wednesday 16 March 2022.
7. New applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at West Suffolk House, Western Way, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP33 3YU by 5pm on Wednesday 23 March 2022.
8. Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election on grounds of physical incapacity or for work/service reasons must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at West Suffolk House, Western Way, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP33 3YU by 5pm on Thursday 31 March 2022. To apply, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5pm on Wednesday 23 March 2022.

Nominations pack for candidates – This is for potential candidates to complete in order to stand at the elections, so you are able to provide these to anyone who is interested for completion. As set out in the Notice of Election, completed nominations packs must be delivered to us by hand at our West Suffolk House offices in Bury St Edmunds. We therefore ask that anyone wishing to do so contacts us at elections@westsuffolk.gov.uk to arrange an appointment with us to complete these and undertake informal checks on the papers prior to formal submission.
Request for a copy of the electoral register – Anyone standing as a candidate at these elections is entitled to request a copy of the register for campaigning purposes. If anyone wishes to do so, they should complete a form and return it to us. Please email elections@westsuffolk.gov.uk
Request for a copy of the absent voters list – As above, candidates are able to request a list of voters who have an absent voting (postal vote / proxy vote) arrangement in place. If they wish to request this, they can complete and return a form to us. Please email elections@westsuffolk.gov.uk
