Below are some of the activities I have been involved in alongside actively supporting the Police with tasks regarding crimes reported in Newmarket, this has involved requesting and collecting CCTV and speaking with businesses that have been victims or witnesses of crime to offer support, advice, and updates as well as regular intelligence submissions.(8This Month).
Local intelligence – Four men have appeared in court after 300 cannabis plants worth around £250,000 were discovered when police raided a drug factory at a Premises on Newmarket High Street. The police raid came as a result of a six-month investigation using intelligence and information received from members of the public.
Police cadets were this week given the opportunity to see the Police Dog section in action as they demonstrated how the dogs are trained to sniff out drugs find specific objects and restrain individuals. We now have 15 cadets six of whom come from Newmarket. Working with the Cadets provides an excellent opportunity to engage with young people and since its introduction to Western area five years ago we have seen some Cadets go on to join the Police as regular officers.
Euro 2021 – Licensed Premises were visited prior to the Final on 11/07/2021 and apart from a small number of isolated incidents this event took place with very few issues.
E scooters – Although there are not as many being illegally used in Newmarket as there were a couple of months ago partly due to a number of warnings being issued and also a Media campaign to raise awareness. There are still individuals who continue to use them on the highways and footpaths, One such scooter was seized on Newmarket High Street on 09/07/2021.
Speed checks – Have been conducted at various locations in and around Newmarket. These are in addition to the regular checks conducted by the Police Safety Camera Team.
Yellow Brick Road litter pick event – On Saturday 17th I joined volunteers on a litter pick covering the YBR. This was part of Project YBR and on this occasion, the Racing Centre took the lead in organising it.
Abbeycroft Leisure Centre – Overnight 20/07/2021 Eight Travelling families took up residence in the car park at the Leisure Centre. Police attended and took details and West Suffolk council has begun the process to move them on. I Will be making regular visits to the site whilst the current situation continues.
