The Rotary Club of Newmarket has announced a Community Awards scheme to recognise those in and around the town who have gone ‘above and beyond’ in the past year.
The past year has been difficult for many people, but throughout the coronavirus pandemic which has impacted everyone’s lives, many stepped up to help friends, neighbours, and strangers get through unprecedented times.
In collaboration with The Jockey Club and Newmarket Town Council, the town’s Rotary Club have launched their search to recognise the outstanding individuals in the town to find those who deserve recognition most.
The awards are open to individuals and groups of all ages within the CB8 postcode. The categories are split into three areas, and:
Volunteers
Young volunteer, under 13
Young volunteer, under 21
Adult volunteer, 21+
Volunteer Carers
Young volunteer, under 13
Young volunteer, under 21
Adult volunteer, 21+
Fundraisers
Young volunteer, under 13
Young volunteer, under 21

Most outstanding recipient
Overall community individual
Nominations are open now and should be sent using the coupon in the Newmarket Journal by Wednesday 31st March. Each nomination will receive a letter of acknowledgment.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place recipients in each category will receive a certificate, trophy, and cash with additional gifts of flowers or champagne (adults only) for the winners.
The Jockey Club will be hosting a prestigious presentation event at its High Street headquarters on July 31st, coronavirus restrictions allowing. Bob Champion MBE and Clare, Countess of Euston, the Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk, are also expected to be handing out the awards.
The club is wanting to recognise those who have exemplified the Rotary motto of Service Above Self by their deeds naturally, and instinctively, without thinking, and without reward.
