”I was delighted to be present at the planting of cherry trees on the Severals. The trees have been donated as an expression of friendship between the UK and Japan. It is hoped that the pink blossoms in spring will not only bring us hope, but also remind us to foster friendship and kindness whenever we can.
Unfortunately the pandemic continues to cast a shadow over our lives. Our only hope is to vaccinate as many people as possible as soon as possible.
The Town Council has been contacted by the NHS, regarding the potential use of the King Edward Memorial Hall as a mass vaccination centre. Every site has to go through a number of stringent tests before it can be permitted to operate as a vaccination centre. I hope that there will soon be a vaccination centre operating in Newmarket and we are pleased that the NHS have considered using the Memorial Hall. We will do all we can to help the NHS at this stage in the fight against the Coronavirus.
It is important to remember that individuals will be contacted when it is their turn to have the vaccine. You will be informed of when and where the vaccination will take place. We must avoid our GPs and NHS services being overwhelmed with inquiries and therefore you must not make contact regarding a vaccination date.
If you have been offered the opportunity of a vaccination at Mildenhall or elsewhere, please take it up and under no circumstances delay in doing so. You should not wait for the service to be available from the Memorial Hall or indeed anywhere else in the Town.
I hope that with that the spring will not only bring us flowers and blossom, it will also herald the end of the Coronavirus”.
