With the assistance of West Suffolk Council, Newmarket Town Council can provide equipment for litter picking.
Also, with the assistance of Suffolk County Council, we can provide equipment for ground maintenance work, mainly weed removal and minor gardening tasks.

Andrew Appleby, Chair of Newmarket Town Council’s Neighbourhood Plan Committee said: ”The intention of Town Council’s community volunteer initiative (Keep Newmarket Tidy) is not just to pick up litter, although that is an objective. Council staff can effectively clean roads but volunteers can reach the litter others cannot, especially on pavements and alongside walls and hedges. Some might claim that litter is the councils’ responsibility but it is not most efficient use of time or economic use of council taxes. The town keeper can spend an hour a day picking litter in the Memorial Gardens, time better spent on other work. West Suffolk Council have provided litter picking kits for volunteers to use but any one out walking can take a carrier bag and pick up litter. Of course, it would be beneficial if every one disposed of their litter appropriately. Additionally, in association with a Suffolk County Council community self help scheme there are other tasks which volunteers can undertake, including sign cleaning and various ‘gardening’ tasks which have been identified by the Neighbourhood Plan Committee.”
