Welcome to my latest partnership funded PCSO report.
Included below are just some of the activities undertaken by myself This is in addition to actively supporting the police with taskings which relate to incidents reported in Newmarket. This would typically involve the request and or collection of CCTV The submission of Intelligence reports (8 this month) as well as engaging with victims or witnesses of crime to offer Support, Advice, and updates.
- Neighbourhood Priorities- These are currently: Reducing ASB and tackling criminality in the area of Icewell Hill (Op Beckon); and also Targeting County Lines operating in and around Newmarket.
- Assaults- The Month got off to a bad start on 01/02/2022 with a crime scene in place at the Guineas Multi Storey Car Park, this followed an assault on a teenage male overnight. The male was taken to hospital and the scene remained in place until mid-morning to allow for Police CSI to conduct work.
- Attempted Cooking Oil Thefts- A number of fast-food outlets were targeted for cooking oil theft this month and I visited each one to offer advice and a premises survey to improve security.
- Pop Up COVID Vaccination Clinics- Offering the Pfizer vaccination were in Newmarket at the Leisure Centre on 09/02/2022 and at Tesco’s on 11/02/2022. In addition, The NHS Bus was also in Newmarket on 11:02/2022 located at Tesco’s Car Park. An additional clinic was held on 22/02/2022 at Turners Hall. No bookings were required, and I paid periodic visits to the sites for reassurance and monitoring purposes.
- Half Term-Lots of Children in and around the town but very few incidents. The Guineas paid host to a Dinosaur experience which attracted around 300 youngsters over three sessions and I was able to conduct a bike marking session over this period.
- Community Engagement-This month I have supported the Dementia Awareness Alliance, The Health Walk Group, St Marys Church and the Newmarket Community Church. Also arranged for some Nursery visits and with Covid restrictions coming to an end I will shortly be starting to hold weekly surgeries.
- Miscellaneous Parking issues-I have again received complaints re inconsiderate parking at Field Road Terrace which I have shared with the Local Authorities Civil Enforcement Officers. In addition, I will be looking at doing a leaflet drop in the affected area. I was also made aware of a car which had been left unlocked with the keys in the ignition at Rous Rd car park and was able to trace the owner’s husband who attended to collect it along with suitable advice.
- Memorial-On Friday 18th February I attended a reception to commemorate Civilian victims of the Newmarket High Street Bombing which took place 81 years ago 0n 18th February 1941 a Memorial Plaque to the 20 people who tragically lost their lives was dedicated on the front of Memorial Hall. The unveiling was preceded by an excellent presentation by the Newmarket Local History Society and some very humbling words by family members.
