Minutes of the Extraordinary Meeting of the Newmarket Town Council held on Monday 1st October 2018 at 5.00 pm
at the Memorial Hall, High Street, Newmarket, Suffolk, CB8 8JP

EX18/10/1 Fire safety briefing and announcement that proceeding may be filmed or recorded
The Mayor opened the meeting and read out the Fire Safety Briefing and the announcement that the meeting may be filmed or recorded.
EX18/10/2 Apologies for absence – LGA 1972, Section 85(1) & (2)
No apologies had been received, Cllrs Anderson, O’Neill and Wright were not in attendance.
EX18/10/3 Declaration of members interests and to remind councillors of the need to keep up to date their register of members interests and to consider any requests received for members dispensation
The following councillors declared a non-pecuniary interest in matters on the agenda:-

EX18/10/4 Public participation an invitation to members of the public to put questions/statements of not more than 3 minutes duration. No resolutions can be made but councillors are very happy for matter relating to the town to be brought to their attention.
A number of members of the public spoke relating to the agenda item.

EX18/10/5 To consider bestowing the title of honorary freeman of the town to his Royal Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum
The Mayor stated the importance of council coming together to recognise His Highness’ outstanding input into the town and the school and noted the immense gratitude shown throughout the meeting by the majority of speakers.
Resolved
Following an unanimous vote in favour, it was resolved that a letter of thanks be sent from Newmarket Town Council to His Royal Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum expressing gratitude for the phenomenal support of Newmarket Academy and the wider community and recognising his unparalleled generosity.
