Newmarket Town Council has commissioned the instalment of a surveillance camera system within the area of Memorial Gardens in response to changing crime priorities within the town. The safety and security of Newmarket’s residents and visitors alike is paramount to Newmarket Town Council.
There are 2 static cameras which are programmed to tour in different directions to act as a deterrent and increase the chances of capturing any incidents that occur. The cameras are linked into the control room at West Suffolk Council which monitors the Town Centre cameras in Newmarket.
The primary objective of the scheme is to provide a safer Town Centre environment for the general public and reduce the fear of crime. CCTV is about prevention, deterrence and detection of crime whilst at the same time safeguarding the privacy of families enjoying the Gardens.
The council is working closely with Suffolk Police and other partners to operate 24/7x 365 security footage. The control room has access to police airways which allows operators to alert officers of any incidents and get immediate response. Live images can be patched through to Police Headquarters in Martlesham.
All staff being fully trained and qualified Control Room Operators. The CCTV teams are NPPV2 vetted by Suffolk Police also have a valid CCTV SIA licence.
Councillor Michael Jefferys, the Town Mayor of Newmarket, is delighted to see the system installed and said: ‘’ We are always looking to improve the facilities in the Memorial Gardens. The CCTV will increase the security of the Gardens and ensure that the residents who enjoy visiting the Gardens can feel safe and protected.’’
