This week we discover the Stour Valley Path, particularly notable for the beauty of the scenery en route.
The Stour Valley Path is a long distance path in the East Anglia region of England which follows the River Stour valley downstream. The Stour which has been made famous by the great landscape painter John Constable through images such as Flatford Mill and the Haywain is one of the most scenic in England. Much of the countryside is untouched by modernity and the area of the Stour is classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From the beginning of the trail at the Clock Tower at the top of Newmarket High Street the walk passes Stetchworth, Great Bradley, Little Thurlow, Great Wratting, Kedington, Stoke by Clare, Clare, Cavendish, Glemsford, Kentwell Hall, Long Melford, Sudbury, Lamarsh, Bures, Nayland, Stoke-by-Nayland, Stratford St Mary and Dedham to terminate at Seafield Bay, Cattawade.
Stour Valley Path: Newmarket to Stetchworth 5miles (8km). Look from the Devil’s Dyke across some of the many gallops that surround Newmarket to a golf course.
