Memorial Gardens Competition

To celebrate the official opening of the renovated and redesigned

Memorial Gardens in Newmarket, young writers are being presented with an exciting opportunity to showcase their talent.

Newmarket Town Council is launching a competition!

We are inviting you to put pen to paper and produce up to 500 words with the title:

‘WHAT MY COMMUNITY MEANS TO ME’.

Get creative, because entries can be fictional or anecdotal,

and as weird and wacky as your imagination can conjure!

The winner will be invited to join The Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP in opening the Memorial Gardens  and, along with five runners-up, enjoy afternoon tea afterwards with the project team.

We are delighted  to offer up an additional fantastic prize of 4 hospitality tickets to see the  stunning Disney on Ice at the O2 venue in December 2019!

Entries must be original and the work of the named individual.  Open to budding writers aged 16  and under. Entries must be submitted to Newmarket Town Council by hand or via email at  tcm@newmarket.gov.uk by 31st March 2019.

The winner will be announced on Thursday 4th April on Newmarket Town Council’s Facebook page.

Thank you to our two local judges Emma Berry and Alison Hayes and we are thrilled to announce that renowned crime novelist William Ryan and British historian and author Harry Sidebottom will be offering feedback on the shortlisted entries.

All are welcome to the opening of the Memorial Gardens on

Friday 5th April at 4pm

We look forward to seeing you there!
