VJ Day 75 Service Of Remembrance

The 15th August 2020 marks the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day (Victory over Japan) commemorating the end of the Second World War.
Whilst VE Day (Victory in Europe) marked the end of the war in Europe in May 1945, many thousands of Armed Forces personnel were still engaged in bitter fighting in the Far East. Victory over Japan would come at a heavy price, and Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day) marks the day Japan surrendered on the 15 August 1945, which in effect ended the Second World War.

Pay tribute to the Second World War generation on VJ Day at the Newmarket War Memorial on Saturday 15th August 2020, 10:45am organised by Newmarket’s Royal British Legion. It’s a static act of Remembrance and two-minute silence will be observed at 11am.

Due to social distancing restrictions up to 30 people are now allowed to attend.
Please send your RSVP to events@newmarket.gov.uk

Your reply is kindly requested before 5th August. Participation is by invitation only.
