What is twinning: ‘’A twinning is the coming together of two communities seeking in this way to take actions in the aim of facing their problems and developing between themselves closer and closer ties of friendship, cooperation and mutual awareness’’.
The first twinning links were born in the aftermath of the second world war, on the bases that friendship between citizens of different countries, was the necessary first step to rebuilding a stable and peaceful world.
A good twinning link should involve as broad a range of members of the community as possible – of all ages and backgrounds in both partner towns, it should reveal new cultures, encourage the community to consider and exchange views on the major issues.
Thank you to ”Amis De Newmarket” Association who let us use their photos taken in Maisons- Laffitte this year. Families from both sides of the channel enjoy the traditions from both countries. The French are well known for their hospitality and made their English families feel welcome in their homes.
2020, it was Newmarket’s turn to host the exchange visit from Maison Laffitte. It is with great regret that we have to announce the cancellation of the planned visit on the 30th May 2020. We home to meet the French twinners next year.
