What is twinning: ‘’A twinning is the coming together of two communities seeking in this way to take actions in the aim of facing their problems and developing between themselves closer and closer ties of friendship, cooperation and mutual awareness’’.
The first twinning links were born in the aftermath of the second world war, on the bases that friendship between citizens of different countries, was the necessary first step to rebuilding a stable and peaceful world.
A good twinning link should involve as broad a range of members of the community as possible – of all ages and backgrounds in both partner towns, it should reveal new cultures, encourage the community to consider and exchange views on the major issues.
This year is Newmarket’s turn to visit Maisons- Laffitte. The coach will depart from Newmarket 7th June in the morning and return on the 10th June in the evening. You will stay with a French family and enjoy a tour of some of the sights and places of interest in the area and discover some of the history and traditions.
